money is not the root of all evil. the love of money is the root of all evil(Timothy 6:10). It is often misquoted. money itself is not the problem and actually is an important aspect of modern society, allowing for specialized labor in a way that the barter system never could allow. So, the problem is greed, not a system of exchange.

I personally believe that money is evil not simply because of the greed inherent, but also the difficulties it causes; e.g. when friendships get strained on account of money being loaned that continually cannot be paid back due to additional unforeseen financial hardships, and the subtle way it can cause some people to de-emphasize the hard work and effort that it is originally intended to represent.
