Stolen from today's Daily Illuminator: Baby's Named A Bad, Bad Thing.

Brittany after the statue- Brittania

'Cause nothing in, say, France is called Britanny. Nothing big like a province. Nothing else in England called Britannia, either. Nothing big like...England.

Their hatred of this particular woman is the only thing England and France have agreed on since 1066.

I always get a laugh out of that site. Makes me feel pretty good that I have a relatively normal name.

Heh, one of my half-sisters is named Brittany. (The other is a much more conventional "Rachel.")

And something I saw on the site, in the "unfortunate combos" section, was a "Harry Cox." Well, I'm here to tell you that there was indeed such a man in my husband's (extended) family. (His mother was a Cox before she was a Carey and then a Lennon. Harry was either an uncle or grandfather; I forget which.)

A Lennon? Don't suppose one from the Pittsburgh, PA area? I *think* that's where most of Grandpa Lennon's relatives are...

Possibly. My father-in-law comes from a very large Lennon family (and I mean HUGE, and very Irish Catholic :)), and they've spent plenty of time in Scranton, among other places in PA and Delaware.

This site made me laugh 'til I cried, when Jen showed it to me.

I dare not approach it while at work. I would be fired in a heartbeat.

It is, however, very, very good for us Christophers. "Wow. We've got a dull, common name..." Read, read. "Wow. I've got a common, easily spelled, reasonably sane name!"

Reminds me of someone I knew naming her child Bradley. "Man, she must really hate that kid."

Amen. My name might have been a bit trendy when I was named, and it may be a 'noun' name, but it's not misspelled, it sounds reasonably normal, and it's nothing terribly strange or inappropriate.
