6:15 AM: I wake up to the captain's announcement that we're 20 minutes away from Charlotte. Alex and I have slept through the entire flight. (Except once, when I woke up just as the drink cart was going past and waved them off.) Irritatingly, I appear to have picked up an inflammation somewhere between my right nose and ear.

When the attendant comes by with the trash bag, before Alex is really awake, I throw away the remains of dinner from last night. I kept it because I was afraid Alex would wake up hungry in the middle of the night - he didn't eat much Wednesday - but after eight hours, half a hot dog and a bottle of milk, unrefrigerated, aren't going to be a particularly good breakfast.

6:30 AM: We get off the plane. As appears to be standard for this trip, the gate for our next flight is less than a hundred feet away. Since we still have 45 minutes before boarding, I take advantage of this to procure some cold/allergy medicine and drinks for both of us. (I have orange juice; he has Caffeine-Free Diet Coke. We share.) Alex is fascinated by the automatic toilets and sinks.

6:45 AM: I am strongly tempted by the offer of a $50 upgrade to first class, but resist. I am strong, like a rock.

7 AM: Still strong. But I do go over and ask how wide the plane is. It's 3-and-3; I was hoping it was 3-and-2, so that there wasn't a D to have anyone in. (We have 20E and F on this flight, and I wanted to give Alex the window, but I also wanted to not inconvenience anyone by having a giant me next to them. Dilemma. I think I'll put Alex in the middle initially and see who shows up in D. Maybe nobody will, and we can spread out a little.)

7:20 AM: We really ought to be boarding by now, since our flight leaves at 7:45. I'm not really complaining about a late departure - the later we leave, the less time I have to spend slumming around the hotel before the 3 PM check-in - but it would be nice to know that we haven't missed anything.

On the other hand, if we have, then so have the hundred or so other people at the gate.

7:24 AM: Okay, we've started boarding.

9:05 AM: We've landed, fifteen minutes early. The monorail from the terminal to the baggage claim is still pretty nifty. The baggage claim is crowded; but I get all my stuff back in one piece. $30 for the shuttle to the Wyndham Palace later, I'm sitting and waiting for the bus when a van pulls up. I had not expected a van. Van drivers expect tips. I have no cash left.

10:45 AM: We arrive at the Wyndham. The van driver does not appear to be upset when I "forget" to tip him. (I actually have $1 left in cash, and decided that forgetting to tip him was less declassé than tipping him 3.3%.)

I arrive at the desk. I give the guy my confirmation number. The guy takes an awfully long time to find the reservation. "Having trouble?" "Still looking - oh.

"Your reservation doesn't start until tomorrow."

"I'm sorry?"

"The 17th to the 23rd."

"...okay, can we-"

"And we're booked solid tonight."

"Oh, God."

11 AM: I am on the phone with my father's office, since they arranged (through a proxy) the reservation. They tell me that they've made a one-night reservation at the Grosvenor, which is just up the street.

11:30 AM: I arrive at the Grosvenor. I think I've lost twenty pounds to sweating over the last two days. The lady at the desk confirms our reservation. We head up. Thank God, we have a place to put our things down... for now. (Tomorrow we pack up and head back to the Wyndham, since our original reservation there stands.)

But as of now - noon, Thursday, June 16 - we are finally at peace. And we're on the grounds of Walt Disney World.

I hope so too. :) Right now we're both just recovering - which largely means sleeping...

But tomorrow, the Magic Kingdom!

It's... well, the only actual temperature quote I got was at 9 AM, when it was 79. I've heard an estimated daily high of 95 F, though.
