The new Harry Potter book, due to be released June 21, apparently clocks in at 255,000 words.

NaNoWriMo, eat your heart out.

Did someone secretly replace J.K. Rowling with Robert Jordan!? If they start calling Harry "The Slytherin Reborn", I'm calling the cops!

From what I've heard, about 1/3 bigger.

On the one hand, I keep thinking, "I can wait a little longer, get this woman an editor!"

On the other hand, I keep thinking, "Oooo, good, this means it'll take longer to read, and have more bits I can go back and reread a second time or third for fuller appreciation of them."

Well, it still needs to be edited so that word count could drop considerably. And I wouldn't insult her by comparing her to Jordan; She can finish a story.

Oh, really? I'd understood that 255,000 words was the final, edited count.

(The King James Bible, by contrast, weighs in at 181,000 words, IIRC.)

I remember reading about Piers Anthony thinking that Macroscope was huge at 100,000...
