Beyond this life

Right now I'm waiting for my socks to dry, if you can believe anything so prosaic.

August is the first month since I've been a member of LiveJournal in which I've posted an entry at least once a day (not 30 entries per month, which I have done before, but one or more entries every calendar day). In commemoration of this, I'm going offline tonight at midnight: only e-mail and IM, just like in July. I'll be staying offline until Sunday night. Now that I know how to make e-mail posts to LJ, though, I may keep my journal updated.

Random thoughts

In about eight minutes, my electronic egg timer is going to pop up and tell me to go put a quarter in the parking meter, so I should make this fast.

Out of curiosity, I did the math on my posting habits for the month of August. It turns out I've posted more later in the week (Wednesday and after) in both absolute and relative terms, but my weekly posting habits have no real pattern:

Sunday: 11 total, 2.2 per day
Monday: 10 total, 2 per day
Tuesday: 10 total (so far!), 2 per day
Wednesday: 11 total, 2.75 per day
Thursday: 12 total, 3 per day
Friday: 11 total, 2.75 per day
Saturday: 11 total, 2.75 per day

Week 1: 15 total, 2.14 per day
Week 2: 23 total, 3.29 per day
Week 3: 13 total, 1.87 per day
Week 4: 18 total, 2.57 per day
Week 5: 7 total (so far), 2.33 per day

76 posts total, 2.45 per day.

Last rites

It's a good thing I'm starting this Internet hiatus again, because I'm almost totally blocked on Secret Project Q, and I really want to get it done by the end of the weekend.

Internet hiatus: I'm going to be on email, and IM (ICQ, AIM, MSN, Y!M), and that's it. I may use the email-posting feature of LiveJournal to make posts from time to time, but I'm not going to be responding to comments, and I won't see any posts made between now and Sunday night. (Although I may go back and review them on Monday.) If you don't already have my email address, edg [at] livejournal [dot] com is the best way to reach me; my IM contact information should be listed in my userinfo.

Something I wanted to mention before I forget about it - I called Comcast yesterday and had them look into what it would really take to get cable Internet here. (I can't get satellite - too many trees - and DSL would require the phones up my entire road being out for several days while they replaced the lines, and would in addition cost me several thousand dollars. I thought cable would too, but apparently it might not.) They're sending a surveyor out sometime this week, and should have an estimate of what it'll take by Monday; it's entirely possible that I could have high-speed Internet by the end of September, for the cost of cable installation. (I'm not giving up the satellite TV, though; if nothing else, the interface is leaps and bounds better than the Comcast interface.)
