I woke up about fifteen minutes ago from a dream about finding a new job. All of the places to which I'd applied had instituted a new hiring procedure: you had to spend some actual time on the job to prove that you could do it before they'd hire you. So the dream involved me trying out various jobs, each of which was tedious ("take a bottle, filled with strange and not necessarily natural substances, out of a cardboard box, figure out which pre-existing arcane label in the database describes the bottle, enter that label into another database, repeat" was a typical example), and none of which was willing to offer me more than $15k. I remember talking to seven or eight supervisors: "It doesn't matter that you're making $30k at your old job, this job is better!" Finally, I went back to my old job - which had turned into data entry, which I hadn't been doing fast enough and for which I was going to get in trouble, because my supervisor was coming back from her vacation and I was working in a remote corner of her cavernous office where she could watch me.
And she walked in the door and asked how the entry was coming, and I woke up.
I really should have gone out of town for my vacation.
