A very short vignette...

...(in fact, fewer than one hundred words), based on my reading only the first ten pages of Nobilis. Comments welcome.

Nobody knew how long they had lived, or how they lived together. Most who met them said that they should be incompatible, but sometimes true opposites do attract. They had been known by an endless succession of names, but mostly they were called now Wane and Wax, or Ebb and Flow. They lived in a house by the ocean, on the Mediterranean where the winters were cool and the summers were hot, and watched the waves approach and recede, and commanded the cycles of the Earth.
