A series of events
Jan. 17th, 2003 08:45 amIn rapid succession:
The brakes failed on my car last night.
On the freeway.
During rush hour.
No, nobody was hurt.
No, I didn't get into an accident.
In fact, everybody involved made it home just fine.
Expanded: A deer ran in front of my car while I was coming home on Tuesday night, and stopped dead. I had to do likewise, and in the process hammered the brake pedal into the ground (and a nice pair of skid marks into the road). (For what it's worth, I stopped about an inch from the deer, who then bounded off into the woods.) Ever since, I'd been having a little trouble with pressure on the brake lines, but I could still drive fine until about halfway up the interstate, at which point I pressed the brake pedal - and it kept going without doing anything.
Fortunately, through low speed and using the gearbox to slow down, I made it home in one piece. (There were some immensely terrifying moments on the freeway, however.)
In about 15 minutes, I'm going to call, again in rapid succession,
AAA, and
the mechanic to whom I'm towing the car.
Hopefully this is an easily-fixed and inexpensive problem (like "oh, your brake fluid's low" or something).
*sigh*
