I can't believe it's almost 9 AM already.

I slept through my alarm for fifteen minutes; when I finally did get up, Alex was woken up by the sound of the alarm turning off. He looked up at me and said, "Daddy, it's not time to get up yet. It's still dark." He never did go back to sleep, though.

I added some new icons today - mostly space-themed. Check 'em out here if you're so inclined.

This morning, driving in to work, I realized abruptly that I hadn't removed the snow from the roof of my car. I gave a few people unintentional, impromptu object lessons in Why It's A Bad Idea To Tailgate as the car warmed up.

I see that GURPS Vorkosigan is back on the schedule. Yay for [livejournal.com profile] incandescens!

And now, an impromptu poll. (Note: "college" in this poll is used to mean "undergraduate study" or "study toward a bachelor's/baccalaureate degree".)

Okay, since I can't edit the poll, I'm going to make a note up here: I'm using "retail" and "office" as catch-all descriptions, not as in "I worked in a store" or "I worked in an office". "Retail", in this poll, means "a job that had irregular hours and hourly pay", while "Office" means "a job that had regular hours and either hourly pay (wages) or yearly pay (salary)".

Hmmm nothing for things like summer jobs before college. I never worked anything resembling full time, but did have several summer jobs.

Well, that'd probably fit into "part-time, retail", I'm guessing. :)

Heh. I worked part-time before college, but never retail. I taught swimming on weekends, and worked a summer internship at Argonne National Lab.

Well, "retail" is just a catch-all term for jobs that don't have a set schedule of hours for each employee. If you were only working three hours a day, and three days a week, but it was the same three hours (say, 12-3) and the same days (say, MWF), then that counts as "office". If your schedule changed, it counts as "retail". :)

Before college I worked part-time oddjobs at my parent's printshop, and after that closed, did the laundry for my mom's massage therapy business... had to choose 'no job' because that didn't much fit the other choices at all. A spot for 'odd part time jobs' would have been nicce.

qv. the edit to the post; I'm not using "retail" the way I think you think I am.

I worked for the family business -- no set hours, variable pay, no real 'call in sick' thing. Mostly I did mailing assembly and sorting. Sometimes art/coloring...

But I put down No Job because it wasn't really a job. Just sort of... chores, I guess.

Again, see the edit above - what you're talking about, I'm referring to as "retail".

Yeah, but, well, I wasn't in a store selling anything? O:> Okay, retail it is... Though it wasn't usually paid work, unless you count IOUs.

I probably messed up the poll a little bit... ;)

I wanted to go to college, but the chronic fatiuge just made it too hard for me. Usually I'm an A or B student, but I just couldn't get to class and get homework done, so I really started to slide, and my councilor let me go "on hiatus"...

Someday I'll go back.
