I have a [livejournal.com profile] fadethecat! She's visiting from Texas for the weekend. It's great to have her here; talking to someone online is great, but it's really no substitute for having them around in person. Yesterday was a Day Of Movies (we saw Van Helsing, My Neighbor Totoro, and Shrek 2 in rapid succession); right at the moment she's asleep, but as soon as she wakes up and we both take showers we're headed down to DC to do some Smithsonianing.

Just so everybody knows why I'm not around. ;)

(Oh, that and the flash thunderstorm we had yesterday killed the backup modem in my desktop computer, so I'm going to have to figure out how to do all of my online stuff from my iBook. It's smooth sailing for the most part, but there are some frustrating parts - like IM services. If anyone's curious, by the way, my ICQ, MSN, AIM, and Yahoo! information should all be in my userinfo here.)

Smithsonian was fun, but tiring and hot; since [livejournal.com profile] fadethecat's legs started bothering her after three or four hours, we headed homeward. On the way, though, we stopped by [livejournal.com profile] telerib's house to see if she, Moe, and Sarah were home - and they were! So we spent an hour and a half or so talking gaming before I finally realized what time it was and that we really did have to leave if we were going to buy crabs on the way home.

It turns out that with the remodeling, Gibby's Seafood has new hours, so we actually arrived about half an hour before they closed (as opposed to arriving half an hour after they closed, as I'd feared we might) and picked up three dozen Chesapeake blue crabs, steamed. (I prefer to steam them myself, but I really didn't have the energy at that point.) So we came home, had ourselves a nice crab dinner (after I taught Fade how to shell a crab) while watching the premiere episode of Monk (on DVD), and now she's in the bath and I'm being remarkably pedestrian by updating my journal. (After this I'm going to add a little excitement by cleaning up the crab remains.)

Having [livejournal.com profile] fadethecat around makes me happy.
