Two things, unrelated

cmccurry and I share an election district (the 6th, if you're curious), which amuses me. Our Representative, Roscoe Bartlett (R), has been in office for twelve years now, and it seems like - given how I feel about his politics - it's time to oust him... but I'm not sure I like Kenneth Bosley, the Democratic contender, any better, and I have very little faith that he can win the election.

PETA jumps the shark

I've been convinced for a few years now that PETA was losing relevance, and grandstanding in an attempt to compensate - but this is just silly.

Taking a page out of an old high school yearbook trick, an official with an animal rights organization successfully placed a hidden message in a brick on the grounds of the San Diego Padres new stadium, Petco Park.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) had a 12-word statement engraved in an 8-by-8 inch brick -- the commemorative bricks were offered by the Padres as part of a permanent display surrounding the team's new $411 million stadium.

The message reads, "Break Open Your Cold Ones! Toast The Padres! Enjoy This Championship Organization!" The first letter of every word spells "BOYCOTT PETCO."

On the other hand, "Petco Park" bugs the hell out of me.
