Went to sleep...
Sep. 2nd, 2003 02:50 pm...to try to get some rest, and had the oddest dream.
I was part of a group of students (college, I think; the studenthood was incidental to the group, it was just that we were all the same age and happened to be in college) who had somehow gained super-powers. I only remember two: mine, which was apparently anything I wanted it to be, but only one at a time, and also invulnerability; and "Darren"'s, which was the ability to absorb other people's abilities. When he did so, the person involved lost the use of the ability, but since he could only have one at a time, the power he was displacing went back to its original owner. Occasionally he could "take it all", which meant drawing the power entirely out of the victim and keeping it as a permanent ability, but that took much longer and caused physiological and psychological problems.
When the dream started, one of us ("Will") had already been killed by a giant alien creature that resembled a cross between a salamander and a centipede: all legs and chitin, but very smooth and slimy, with a salamander-shaped head. We were attempting to raise one of its children to be on our side in order to defeat it, but the creature was faster and more intelligent than we'd thought. It nearly killed Darren, and froze him in the process, and I had to generate a fire-based power and let him take it away in order to keep him alive. (Incidentally, the invulnerability also apparently made me quite a bit slower and less wieldy than I actually am; I had a lot of trouble walking and moving around.) The child hatched and was delighted to see us, the mother attacked and was menacing us...
...and I woke up.
Very odd.

Ghost Story
Sep. 2nd, 2003 11:08 pmI'd planned on using this as the opening vignette for an adventure, but I decided to restructure the adventure and the vignette no longer had a home, so I'm posting it here.
I may have posted this before; I can't remember. Note: this is icky.
