Mildly spoilery thought on The Incredibles
How long ago did clergy start using "I now pronounce you husband and wife" instead of "man and wife"?
I ask because the prologue of The Incredibles is set in the late 1950s, when - I get the impression - the change was not widespread. So a question, in my mind, is: am I mistaken about the history of the "husband and wife" phrasing? Was the writer being anachronistically politically correct? Was the world of The Incredibles more progressive, in that respect, than ours? Or is this a deliberate foreshadowing of the "equality of the sexes" message later in the movie?
